Philadelphia Cop, Mayor Nutter?s Personal Driver, Seriously Injured In 2-Car Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? A Philadelphia police officer, who was en-route to pick up Mayor Nutter, was seriously injured in a two-car crash early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. along Montgomery Drive near Martin Luther King Drive in Fairmount Park.

According to investigators, a Philadelphia police officer, who is Mayor Nutter?s personal driver, was driving a city-owned SUV when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

The officer lost consciousness for several minutes, but he eventually regained it. The officer was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital with injuries to his face and hands.

Sources say the officer was en-route to pick up Mayor Nutter from his home. The identity of the officer was not immediately known.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Montgomery Drive is currently closed at MLK Drive and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
